4th Annual New York Roundtable Writers' Conference

The New York Center for Independent Publishing hosts this conference, which focuses on the business of writing. Attendees range from new to experienced writers. Sample topics include:

  • Writing Book Proposals
  • Writing a Winning Query Letter
  • Online Publishing
  • PR and Marketing
  • Independent Publishers
  • Self Publishing

Editors, agents, publicists, authors, and publishers, including representatives from major publishing houses (HarperCollins, Random House, Simon & Schuster, McGraw-Hill) will be present.

Registration Fees: Early bird - $225 for one day; $325 for both days; includes a copy of Getting Your Book Published for Dummies. Regular - $250 for one day; $350 for both days

Beach Book Festival

JM Northern Media is seeking entries for its inaugural Beach Book Festival, which is designed to celebrate the hottest books for the upcoming summer season.

Author of the Year, Designer of the Year, and Publisher of the Year will be awarded. The outstanding title in each of the 15 specified categories will also be recognized.

Grand Prize: $1,500 cash, a flight to Atlantic City, and a publicity campaign from a PR firm

Eligibility: Self-published or independent publisher titles, published on or after January 1, 2000. Titles must still be available for purchase

Entry Fee: $50/submission. Submit one (1) copy of each book per category

Deadline: Postmarked by April 25, 2008

13th Annual Los Angeles Times Festival of Books

The Los Angeles Times Festival of Books is the largest book festival in the country. Indoor and outdoor events will celebrate the written word, including a book awards presentation on Friday, April 25th. (Nominations are made by the panel of judges, so you can't submit your book for consideration).
